So it begins

Josiah’s 1st chemo just got started a couple minutes ago.  I sat there and held his hand as they connected the line and pushed a few buttons…and that was it.  Somehow I thought something as big as starting chemo would have a little more fan-fare 🙂  He will be getting chemo every day for 5 days and then we should be able to go home.  This is a tough chemo, but hopefully it will be tough on the cancer and not on the rest of his body.  We will come back in three weeks and get new scans to see if the chemo had any effect on his tumors.  We are praying with confidence and hope because our God is ABLE (more than able really) to do even more that what we ask or think.  Above all we are praying that God would receive glory through this and that He would give us the strength we need for each new day.  Our kids are keeping us grounded.  You can’t fall apart when your baby is crying and needs you.  We are missing Ava, but are enjoying the one on one time with the little man.  He is such a joy and is making lots of new friends 🙂  We have really enjoyed reading your comments.  Thank you for your encouragement!  (As a side note, if you were wondering why your comments don’t show up right away, it’s because I have to approve of each one before they are posted).

Prayer requests:

*That Josiah would handle the chemo with ease and have very few to no side effects.

*That we would all remain healthy.  Josiah’s immune system will be very compromised.

*That our kids would be given a measure of wisdom and understanding beyond their years.

*That our testimony would remain strong!

  1. This information was sent to me from a friend whose daughter is currently beating her sarcoma cancer. I am sure that you are like us in that you will have lots of people offering lots of advice….follow your own instincts and the Lord’s leading and you will find the answers you need. ~ Lovingly, Jackie Safley

Pete and Sue Wyckoff lost their daughter, Karen, to osteogenic sarcoma, when she was not yet 26 years old. She helped create the Rein in Sarcoma foundation. Here is their mission statement.

“A Minnesota non-profit Foundation dedicated to finding a cure for sarcoma cancers through research, educating about sarcomas, and supporting sarcoma survivors and their loved ones.”

    Their website is at…www.reininsarcoma.org/index.html

They work to beat osteogenic and Ewings sarcomas…along with all the others…there are many, and they are NOT well–researched. Sarcomas are considered “rare” in the cancer population in general. That DOES NOT mean that we are anywhere curing them!

  2. Jessica and Josiah,
We’re praying for you ALL. Please call if there’s anything we or I (nurse-wise) can help out with.
We’re good for lawn mowing, weedeating, cooking, etc.
    Love to you,
    Carol Byrd

  3. Hey Jess, Josiah, Ava and Lincoln,

  4. I sit here not even knowing what to say. I am at a loss for words. You two are the most incredible couple…you are so young and have been through so much in your lives together. You are amazingly strong and so committed to the Lord. I am just so sorry you have to endure this…I SOOOOO wish we could go back to dropping Andrew off at his precious ADA’s house!! He misses her terribly. Please let me know if you need me to help- I would be happy to take her for a few hours (Andrew would be happy, too!)

You are all in my thoughts constantly and we are praying so hard for your family. Bless you all.

Stay strong and remember that you can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth you! Heart hugs, Joy and Jilliann
