Resting

OK, I have about a minute and a half to type this up while Ava is finishing breakfast and Lincoln is doing something non-destructive 🙂

Do you ever wish you could put what’s in your heart into song?  I do.  There is just something about music that speaks to my very soul and is so powerful…even more than just written or spoken word.  I wish I could put into words (and then a beautiful melody of course) how my very soul soars when I think about meeting my Savior face to face someday.  All fears and worries and sadness will fall away and it will just be Him.  But, the words I come up with fall so short.  I wish I could put into words how much the love of God amazes me and how comforted I am by his new mercies every day.  I wish there was a grander word than “great” to describe His faithfulness!  I wish that I could describe how perfect His peace is when I let it fill my soul.  Granted, there are many other thoughts and feelings that would not sound very nice in song….but I won’t mention them in this post.  I guess for now I’ll have to settle for someone else’s words that share my prayer for the day.

Jesus, I am resting, resting

Jesus, I am resting, resting,
In the joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
Of Thy loving heart.
Thou hast bid me gaze upon Thee,
And Thy beauty fills my soul,
For by Thy transforming power,
Thou hast made me whole.

Refrain

Jesus, I am resting, resting,
In the joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
Of Thy loving heart.

O, how great Thy loving kindness,
Vaster, broader than the sea!
O, how marvelous Thy goodness,
Lavished all on me!
Yes, I rest in Thee, Belovèd,
Know what wealth of grace is Thine,
Know Thy certainty of promise,
And have made it mine.

Simply trusting Thee, Lord Jesus,
I behold Thee as Thou art,
And Thy love, so pure, so changeless,
Satisfies my heart;
Satisfies its deepest longings,
Meets, supplies it’s every need,
Compasseth me round with blessings:
Thine is love indeed!

Ever lift Thy face upon me
As I work and wait for Thee;
Resting ’neath Thy smile, Lord Jesus,
Earth’s dark shadows flee.
Brightness of my Father’s glory,
Sunshine of my Father’s face,
Keep me ever trusting, resting,
Fill me with Thy grace.

Whew, times up!  Ava’s done with breakfast, and Lincoln is climbing and being destructive.  Gotta go be a mom 🙂

  1. What a beautiful picture that song paints! thank you for sharing Jess! I heard about a song called “ten thousand thanks to Jesus” and have been meditating on the words to it. Look it up on the internet when you have a chance 🙂 My heart just swells when I read the words!!!

  2. Jessica, If you only knew what an encouragement the words you write are to SO MANY people. You are touching a lot of lives through your thoughts and by expressing what is in your heart!! It is also so helpful in praying for you and your family specifically. Thank you so much!

  3. That is my absolute favorite hymn of all times!! I just wanted to say that you are a great encouragement and challenge to me. You and your family are in my prayers.

  4. Jess, I just read your blog for the first time last week, and I cried for you and your family. And it made me pray for you in a way I had not before. I mean I know you and your family, but the way you revealed the struggles in your heart swelled a new compassion in my own. Thank you for your ministry here. And then to read today “Jesus I am Resting, Resting” was such an encouragement. To know that our Father hears MY prayer to encourage YOUR heart–that’s awesome! Thanks for letting us know that our prayers are effective, and for how we need to continue to pray. You are bringing honor and glory to God, and that was the reason He created you.

  5. I love that song, too… Btw, though you may not be able to put the words in your heart to song, or ryhme…many times your journal leaves me so incredibly uplifted, just because you’ve shared your heart. I’m so thankful for you & your family….you’re often in my thoughts & prayers! Tabitha

  6. Hi Kids,
    We are on a prayer alert list Josiah your dear mother sends out when you kids need extra strength, guidance and help from doctors or, when she is seeking prayers for the two of you and your little family. (It is a special gift God has given you kids having Christian parents and such loving and caring ones at that).
    We just received a message from your mother Josiah, it was good news this time, about the two of you having your 5th anniversary. Congratulations to the both of you and may you enjoy many, many years together, living your lives for the Lord and raising your children to know Him too.
    May God bless you both and your children greatly.

  9. Just to let you know that I am keeping Josiah and all your family in my prayers. Jesus is still the Great Healer in this day as He was when He walked the earth. His Word says “by His stripes we are healed”. Isaiah 53.5, 1 Peter 2.24. He accomplished our healing when He gave his life for us and our part is to believe and receive. I am believing with you for total healing. It blesses me to know that you’re finding rest in His Love which is so great and so wonderful.

    I understand it is your 5th anniversary and I pray God’s many blessings on your special day and that there will be many more of these special days.

    You don’t know me, but your Grandma Elaine and I graduated from high school together way back in 1949 and then she was one of my attendants when I married. She is such a sweet, dear lady.

    Keep resting in the Love of our loving Father God – I know His hand of mercy and healing is on you for He loves you SO much.

    With love,
    MaryEllen

  10. Hi Josiah and Jess,

    Congratulations on your 5th Anniversary! May God give you many more!!!

    As you may or may not know, we are battling with the same issues that you are facing. We have learnt to take each day together as a gift from God. Enjoy your time together!

    The words of the hymn you posted are so encouraging to me. Our Heavenly Father is so loving and faithful! His comforting presence is so real.

    Praying for you both everyday! God Bless you.
