Daddy’s Day

Ava and Lincoln,

Yes, this is our first Father’s Day without your Daddy and my heart breaks for you because of that.  But even though Daddy is in heaven, you still walk in his shoes whether you realize it or not.  Someday you may wonder why you do certain things a certain way, so when that happens, just come and ask me because it’s probably something you got from your Daddy!  You two remind me of him SO much and I LOVE that.  He is a part of you and nothing can change that.

I love that you both laugh first and laugh loudest at your own jokes…just like your Dad!  Ava, I love that whenever I stand on a chair or do anything else you see as “dangerous”, you always tell me to be careful…just like your Dad.  Lincoln, you of course look like your Daddy and that’s a good thing cause your Daddy got a lady like me so his good looks paid off…ha!  Ava, it was so important to your Daddy that you learn how to talk with people and ask questions…he taught you well.  Lincoln, when you think something is especially funny, you have your Daddy’s high-pitched girly giggle…and I LOVE that!  Ava, you have your Daddy’s ears.  Lincoln, you have your Daddy’s determination and problem solving skills.  Ava, you are serious about your movie watching…just like your Daddy.  Lincoln, you love guns and tools and trucks…just like your Daddy.  You both love to cuddle with your Momma (which I LOVE!) and that is of course…just like your Daddy.

Even though you may not have many memories of your precious Daddy and even though you didn’t get much of a chance to really know him…all you have to do is look at each other and you can know so much about your Daddy.  He LOVED you and was as proud as any Daddy could be of his children.  Though he can’t be here with us to celebrate today, He is in Heaven having the BEST day…because every day in heaven is the best day.  So we will remember him and the love and memories we had with him…and we will be thankful for that.

Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful Daddy’s.

  1. I’ve been thinking of and praying for you and your family all weekend, as this day approached. What a cute picture and what a beautiful post! Ava & Lincoln are lucky to have a Daddy like Josiah! And the thought that their Daddy is with the Daddy of all Daddies…it isn’t always easy to comprehend, it doesn’t always comfort us, especially on days like today, but what better place to be in!

  2. What a beautiful post. I’ve been praying for you and the kids the past few days and as the Lord leads. Thought of you this morning. Blessings to you as you love up those precious kiddos today and see their daddy in them!! Praying God makes Himself very real to you today, Jess!
    Love ya!!

  3. We are all thinking of you today. I am glad the kids can remind you so much of their daddy, and bring happy memories! Josiah is looking down on all of you and he is with you today, and always.

  4. Ava and Lincoln,
Your mommy and I just had a conversation the other day about how much of your daddy lives inside of each of you. He loved you so much, and I know how proud he is of each of you!

What a special mommy you have to post such wonderful thoughts and memories for you to read as you grow up. I feel so blessed to call her my friend, and you are so fortunate to have her as a mommy!

Jess, I have been praying for you a lot this weekend. I pray that the Holy Spirit comforts you, and gives you a peace that passes all understanding. You are such a dear friend, and I so much enjoy our time together. I love you, and am so thankful for you!

Extra blessings to you today, friend!

  5. Wow! What a touching tribute to Josiah! He would be so proud of all 3 of you. Your words were from the Heart of God Himself. My God continue to give you His strength, peace, and comfort today and every day.

  6. Jessica:

You and the Kiddos are constantly in my prayers. Sometimes I wish I could fix all this and not see you in this situation, but I do not have that power and I do not know if that will even be a solution. So the only thing i can do is pray because it is not in my hands. One of the things I worried the most for you and the Kiddos is provision and protection now that your husband went home. That is constantly in my prayers for you and your family. I pray God gives you the ability to solve problems and be a good leader. I pray for confidence and clarity in your decisions. I feel strong about praying for you in areas specially on this day. Please take care and thank you for keeping us updated. Lots of love

  7. Dear Jessica,

What a wonderful legacy for your children about their father! I know they will treasure your writings when they are older. I pray Father’s Day was a day of sharing treasured memories through the tears.

  8. You are amazing Jess! I have no doubt that you will always let your kids know just how great of a daddy they have in them. I love that Lincoln looks JUST like Josiah. What an awesome post to show the kids just how much Josiah still lives in them to this very day. He always will. Keep up the amazing job of being SUPER mommy! I know it is only possible through HIM.

  9. My eyes fill with tears as I read this beautiful post from you to your precious children. Your kids not only had a wonderful daddy, they also have a wonderful mommy. Praying for you! 🙂
