A Day out with Thomas :)

Why exactly would this Momma wake up early on a Saturday and drive 45 minutes just to walk around in the cold and rain?

Answer:  For the love of this little face…

and consequently, for his love of this face…

We not only saw Thomas, we RODE on Thomas!

(He looks like such a big boy sitting there...when did that happen?)

Lincoln was so precious on the 25 minute train ride and basically sat on my lap and watched out the window the whole time.  This momma LOVED the snuggle time!  And he also discovered the fun you can have with a fogged up window.  Such a precious reminder to me that I need to slow down and enjoy these discoveries with him…there’s nothing like it!

My little “choo-choo” loving boy was a little overwhelmed and very intense about seeing every. single. train.  He even got a Thomas tattoo (which he was very proud of).

There was so much Thomas everywhere we looked.  But the thing that made Link the most excited were the REAL trains going by.  Every inch of him was excited about those 🙂

There was even a petting zoo, which he totally loved!

Link kept saying "Hi goat". SO cute!

If his lips look blue in these photos, it’s because they were.  This momma did not look too carefully at the forecast…because ya know, it’s Iowa so you can’t trust the weather man too much (no offense of course).  So I knew it was supposed to be cooler then the day before, but I didn’t know how much cooler.  Anyway, it was in the 50’s and raining, and we had no umbrella or warm jackets or appropriate footwear, but we had SO MUCH FUN anyway!  And I prayed about the situation the whole way there and it was only sprinkling for the first 1/2 hour which gave us enough time to see everything Link was interested in before it started really raining.  It was such a special Mommy/Son thing to do and I loved spending that time with just him and watching his little eyes take it all in and studying his precious little face as it would light up.  Ahh…does this mommy’s heart good!

Love you, my choo-choo lovin’ boy!

  1. I remember when Daniel LOVED Thomas. He even had a Thomas bedroom. Since I don’t get rid of anything, we still have all the Thomas toys. Lincoln will have to come play with them at our house sometime!

  2. Oh what a fun and special day!!!! Thanks for sharing all the pictures 🙂 Lincoln is looking so grown-up (yeah, when did that happen!?) and he is looking so much like his Dad! 🙂 Sure miss you guys! Hugs and Love to all~~~

  3. The Day Out with Thomas is one of my favorite memories with my kids too! I am glad you had such a good time with your son. They grow up so fast.

  4. What a great idea! I’ll have to remember that one for Kalvyn…but the way he is headed it looks like it will be a monster truck show 😦 BOYS AND THEIR WHEELS!

  5. I knew we saw you there!!! While jumping over puddles and trying to stay dry I saw Lincoln… or who I thought was him… and it was! I am glad you had a good time. It was cold and wet but the boys loved every minute.

  6. We went on Sunday! It would have been so fun to see you guys there! I’m glad you got to spend some time just the two of you! How precious. He is growing up so fast!

  7. We took our little boy to see Thomas last year. We enjoyed it too. Whenever Lincoln wants to watch trains he can come to our house. They are just a football field away! Every little boy’s dream (though Mommy and Daddy wish they wouldn’t have to blow their whistles while we sleep).

Take heart in the fact that even those you barely know are still praying for you constantly.

  8. Thanks for sharing Jess! Love it!! Sometimes I feel like I need to just slow down a bit also and see things from my kids perspective. Spending one-on-one time with each kid is so important (It gets overlooked for too long in my household before I realize it… ). I am way excited to got to do that with Lincoln. What a stud he is .. and YES! getting SOO big!

  9. Jessica, you are a WONDERful Mom! God has blessed your children with YOU! May you continue to love on each other and find peace.

  10. What memories, Jess! Ethan and Thad were SO INTO trains. We went over to Boone many times just to go to the station and watch all the trains go through. You need to take Link to Ames. On Main St. there’s a store called The Pumpkin Patch, and it’s full of Brio train stuff. We would go in there, and when the boys heard a train coming (the tracks are out the back door of the store), they would run out the back and stand there and watch. Then they would go back in and play with the trains some more! 🙂 It’s a great, old-fashioned toy store. Ava would love it, too. And Cafe Diem is almost right across the street! Anyway, it would be a good “field trip.” Seth still likes to go there. Thanks for sharing all the adorable pics. I so love reading your posts.
    Love,
    Jen
