Happy Birthday Lincoln!

Dear Lincoln,

Happy 2nd Birthday my son.  You are such a precious gift from God and not a day goes by that I’m not thankful for you.  Sometimes I think about the timing of you and how God squeezed you into our lives between some very life-changing events.  God has a very definite purpose for having you here and I’m so excited to watch it unfold!

December 3rd is a special day to my heart for two reasons.  On December 3, 2007 I found out we were expecting a baby and your Daddy and I were beyond thrilled.  God’s plan was to take that baby home just a couple of weeks later and we were so grieved by her loss.  But…don’t you love that word?  But God gave us you exactly a year later and having you was one of the best days of my life.  I’ll never forget staring into your eyes for the first time and how you stopped crying and stared right back.

You have taught me a lot in your 2 years of life.  You have taught me how little sleep I can live on for extended periods of time.  You have taught me to never underestimate you.  You have taught me what determination looks like.  You have taught me that fun and mischief are a daily occurrence.  You have taught me to slow down and just drink you in.  You have taken my hand when it was empty.  You have warmed my heart when it was cold.  You have hugged me when I was lonely.  I love that we have spent countless hours just rocking together and we continue to log more time in that chair almost every night.  I love you exactly the way you are and even though we are putting babyhood behind us, and that makes me a little sad, I’m so excited to find out who you will become.

I love you Linker.

  1. Caroline (and the rest of us too, of course) but especially Caroline sends lots of birthday hugs to Mr. Lincoln. Wonder if he’ll still want to play dress up when we’re back in 4 years!? Tell him he makes people smile all over the world! : )

  2. Happy Birthday Lincoln!!! What a blessing those little boys can be! While my husband was deployed and away from us for about 15 months, my son’s laughter and cuddles are what got me through… Praise God for their love!

  3. It has been awhile since I checked in on you here at the blog. You have done quite a bit! – and experienced more firsts. Please know that I pray for you and your little ones every day. I am especially praying for you all this month! I am sure it is very bittersweet. Continuing to pray…
